Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc member Mykola Tomenko claims that Parliament’s effectiveness will depend on the consensus between political forces.
In his view, important decisions must be adopted not only by the democratic majority but with consideration of the minority’s view as well. Mr. Tomenko stressed that the previous Verkhovna Rada did not consider the opposition’s view despite adopting 30 or 40 resolutions a day.
The current political forces could not reach a compromise because of two personnel conflicts.
The Party of Regions (PRU) promised to nominate Adam Martyunyuk for vice speaker in order to keep the Communist Party in its orbit and now tries to avoid keeping its promise.
There is also a conflict within the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense Bloc (NU-NS) because some MPs were promised specific offices for the successful vote during the formation of a government.
However, such promises breach preliminary agreements between the BYuT and NU-NS.
Thus, NU-NS member Anatoliy Hrytsenko was promised to head the Parliamentary Committee on the National Security and Defense although it is the BYuT’s quota.
“We should end the clash between the coalition and the opposition as well the practice of ultimatums,” said Mr. Tomenko.
He called on all political forces to fulfill resolutions which were adopted at the Conciliatory Council.
It is widely known that the PRU did not vote for convening a subsequent plenary session after termination of the deputy authority of 14 BYuT and NU-NS MPs following their transfer to the Cabinet of Ministers although they promised to do so.
“If the opposition continues such disgraceful practices, the Conciliatory Council as a mechanism of decision-making will become useless,” concluded Mr. Tomenko.
