Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych states that early elections are needed but should be held in full compliance with the Constitution and Ukrainian laws.
Mr. Yanukovych declared this at a Wednesday press-conference.
“Under such circumstances elections are a must. This is the only solution to the current clash.”
The PM stressed that “47 million of Ukrainian citizens could not live under the political crisis when the Parliament’s work was deliberately blocked.”
“We need to make political decisions based only on the Constitution and laws,” re-iterated the PM.
Speaking about the Central Election Commission’s work, Mr. Yanukovych emphasized that “the Party of Regions had never given it directives”.
When asked about the Party of Regions’ commercial financed from unknown sources, Mr. Yanukovych responded that he knew nothing about it because it was the party’s business. Mr. Yanukovych answered the question as if he was not a member of the party.
One of the journalists remarked that the commercial referred to "leaders of the Orange Maidan" as "bankrupt", and asked whether Mr. Yanukovych considered the President to be among those who are "bankrupt", the PM had sarcastically answered:
“You have asked a rhetorical question. I have nothing to add.”
