Quote from Zelenskyy: "Last night the Russian army deployed one of its missiles to destroy the Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum in Kharkiv Region. A missile – to destroy a museum.

The museum of a philosopher and poet who lived in the 18th century. Who taught people what a truly Christian life might look like and how a person might come to know herself. Well, it looks as if museums, the Christian outlook on life and self-knowledge are all threats to contemporary Russia.

Each day of this war the Russian army does something that leaves you speechless. But each day they do it in a way that makes you feel it anew.

Targeted attacks on museums – this wouldn’t cross even a terrorist’s mind. But this is the army that’s waging war on us. This is what they want to do to other European countries, too."

Details: According to Zelenskyy, as of 7 May, the Russian army has already destroyed or damaged nearly 200 cultural heritage sites.

Background: The Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum was located in the village of Skovorodynivka, on an 18th-century estate where Hryhorii Skovoroda spent the last years of his life and where he was buried. This winter Ukraine will celebrate 300 years since the Ukrainian philosopher was born.

Earlier: Russian troops destroyed the National Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum in Kharkiv Region.
