Details: The anti-aircraft defence system shot down a Russian rocket during an air alert in the Uman district on the morning of 8 August.

Debris from the downed rocket damaged a civilian infrastructure facility. Two people were injured and hospitalised.

Rescue workers put out the fire, which consumed an area of 70 sq. m.

Quote from Ambassador Korniichuk: "A Russian rocket has been shot down near Uman, causing damage to civilian infrastructure.  If such attacks by Russia were to happen in the month of Tishrei, they could result, God forbid, in many fatalities among the Jews visiting Uman from around the world."

Background: Last month Ambassador Korniichuk stated that Ukraine would not be able to host Jewish pilgrims on Rosh Hashanah because of the war waged by Russia.
