Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, believes that the ninth package of sanctions against Russia proposed by the European Commission contains a number of important elements, but it should also include restrictions on Russia’s missile programme.

"The next EU sanctions package proposed by the European Commission includes some important elements that Ukraine has long emphasised, including sanctions against more Russian banks and taking more Russian propaganda channels off air," Kuleba tweeted.

"Today I also sent a letter to Josep Borrell proposing to impose stiff sanctions on Russia’s missile production and anything used to launch deadly missiles at Ukraine. Russia must be fully deprived of any ability to strike Ukraine’s critical civilian infrastructure," he added.

Earlier Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, announced the preparation of the EU’s ninth sanctions package against Russia, which adds around 200 individuals and entities from Russia to its sanctions lists.

The European Commission also proposes to impose further export restrictions on dual-use goods, limiting Russia’s access to drones, and restrictions on the energy and mining sector, including a ban on new mining investments in Russia.

The new sanctions package is expected to be discussed by the permanent representatives of EU member states this week and could be approved at the EU leaders’ summit on 15 December.
