Cabinet of Ministers fires Fiscal and Customs services leadership

On their meeting on Wednesday, 1 February, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine fired Viacheslav Demchenko, Acting Head of the State Customs Service and his deputies, Oleksandr Shutskyi and Ruslan Cherkaskyi, as well as Tetiana Kiriienko, Acting Head of the State Tax Service.

Ekonomichna Pravda has received this information from its sources in the government. 

Currently, there is no information on the reasons for dismissal of the said officials. During the first half of the day on 1 February, the State Bureau of Investigations reported "conducting searches as part of its enquiry into the head of the State Tax Service in Kyiv". Nevertheless, their announcement concerned the Acting Head of State Tax Service in Kyiv and Deputy Head of the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Kyiv, who are suspected of illegally receiving VAT refunds from the state budget. There are yet no official reports in regards to Tetiana Kiriienko.

State policy in the tax and customs sphere is carried out by the Ministry of Finance. Accordingly, it was the Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko who at some point submitted a proposal for the appointment of Tetiana Kiriienko and Viacheslav Demchenko as heads of the State Tax Service and the State Customs Service.
