Details: Ukraine will receive five Bozena demining systems from Slovakia under an agreement signed by Shmyhal and Slovak Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák.

Slovakia will also transfer other non-lethal equipment.

"Slovakia will provide Ukraine free of charge with engineering and construction equipment, including Bozena machines, vehicles, demining systems and medical evacuation equipment," Shmyhal said.

He noted that Slovakia is preparing its 15th package of support for Ukraine.

Bozena is a remotely operated demining vehicle that allows bomb disposal experts to work from a safe distance. It can overcome obstacles and access areas inaccessible to humans.

Background:

  • On 6 October, the Slovak government announced a new military support package for Ukraine for the first time since Prime Minister Robert Fico returned to power in 2023.
  • Direct military aid was previously suspended, and investigations were launched into earlier decisions.
  • However, defence cooperation has continued, as Fico's government argues that banning Slovak companies from selling weapons to Ukraine would be hypocritical.
