Zelenskyy: I would support US operation against Iran's regime, not its people

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would support a US operation directed against Iran's regime rather than against its people.

Quote: "I think people in Iran look for help to change the current regime, which openly wants to attack other countries and causes a lot of harm. The regime has existed for so many years. And people have no rights. People disappear. People are killed and executed by thousands.
I would support the operation, which is against the regime, not the people. This is a big difference. I know that the US and the Iranian regime conduct talks now. Of course, talks are better. I can say that because we are at war."
Details: Zelenskyy added that he is not sure the current Iranian regime genuinely shares this idea.
Background:
- Indirect US-Iran talks in Geneva on 26 February ended without any agreements.
- In recent days, there have been growing signs that figures in US President Donald Trump's administration are close to a decision on a military operation against Iran, in which Israel would likely also take part.
- On 27 February, the US Department of State announced the evacuation of non-essential staff from its embassy in Israel due to security risks. Several countries have also urged their citizens to refrain from travelling to Israel.
