Tactical aviation brigade commander Oleksandr Dovhach killed in action in Ukraine's east

Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach, Commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade and a Hero of Ukraine, was killed in action in Ukraine's east on Monday 9 March.

Quote: "Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach, Commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade and Hero of Ukraine, was killed in action on the eastern front on 9 March 2026 under conditions of significant enemy air superiority and strong resistance from enemy air defence systems. He once again completed his combat mission, but tragically, at the cost of his own life."

Details: The Air Force reported that under Dovhach's command, the brigade inflicted precise and impactful strikes on the Russian military from the very first days of the full-scale invasion.

Quote from the Air Force: "He carried out hundreds of combat sorties, striking enemy command posts, equipment and communications systems. He repeatedly provided cover for strike and bomber aviation and destroyed enemy drones and missiles. He fought for Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson oblasts and Zmiinyi [Snake] Island."
