Ukrainian foreign minister urges allies to step up support for Ukraine after Russian attack

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called on Kyiv's international partners not to ease efforts to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and strengthen support for Ukraine following a large-scale Russian attack.

Details: Sybiha stressed that the attack demonstrates the weakness of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, who resorts to terror against civilians because he is unable to achieve results on the battlefield.

The foreign minister called on Ukraine's allies to strengthen the country's defence capabilities, particularly in the field of air defence, and to increase pressure on Russia.

Quote: "We call for additional defence capabilities, including to protect our sky; investment in our defence industry; increased pressure on Russia, including entry ban for Russian combatants, full use of frozen assets; strong political decisions with regard to Ukraine's EU accession and other steps."

Details: The minister emphasised that the world possesses the tools needed to force Russia to end the war.

Background:

• On the night of 23-24 May, Russia carried out another combined attack on Ukraine. During the strike, Russian forces used ballistic missiles and drones. Kyiv was the main target of the attack, and 56 people are known to have been injured while two people were killed.
• Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the Russian attack, stressing that such strikes do not change the fact that Moscow will lose the war.
