President Petro Poroshenko has appointed Ihor Voronchenko as Commander of the Navy, he said during the celebrations for Navy Day in Odesa, Ukrayinski Novyny reports. Voronchenko has also been promoted to Vice Admiral. He has been the acting Commander of the Navy since April 25.

The President also admitted that the measures taken by the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Defense, and the General Staff are insufficient to provide for the needs of the Navy. He expressed approval of the decision of the Head of General Staff Muzhenko and the Minister of Defense Poltorak to make financing the Navy a priority. The President also said that the Ministry needs to work faster on providing housing to Navy servicemen who left Crimea and remained on the Ukrainian side.
