Speaking at a press conference in Lviv, Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko said he wanted his deputies Anatolii Matios and Yurii Stoliarchuk to prove their impartiality and commitment within the upcoming 100 days.

"I’ve got five deputies. Three of them are newcomers. They are in their 30s. They are human right activists, diplomats, lawyers, having not worked a day in the prosecution system. While two others – Mr. Matios and Mr. Stoliarchuk – were responsible for the investigation department before my appointment. I decided to keep them on to assess their performance during 100 days to come," Lutsenko stated.

"Those people who believe it is a mistake are wrong. First, I had no other options. The new management would need at least several months to learn the ropes. Just so you understand, only the Ukrgazvydobuvannia case consists of dozens of volumes," he added as he referred to the protesters who had requested to dismiss Matios for his failure to timely investigate the Debaltseve and Ilovaisk incidents where the Ukrainian military suffered dire casualties.

Lutsenko underlined that the investigative departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office – including military investigation department – were given 100 days to prove their impartiality and commitment. If they lose this chance, he will consider replacing the two deputies and heads of departments.
