Kyiv and Odesa to be Connected via a Direct Railway

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has entered into preliminary talks with international developers on the construction of a direct railway from Kyiv to Odesa. This was stated by the Minister at an International Transport Week briefing in Odesa on June 1, CTS [ed.: the text of this hyperlink is in the Russian language] reports.

The Minister explained that such a railway would speed up commuting times. "Currently, the trains ride a long way. Hence, Intercity trains need 6-7 hours rather than a couple of hours to eat up the miles. We are working on it, but we badly need larger investment," the Minister underlined. However, he pointed out that this idea is a distant goal.
