Onyshchenko: UK Won’t Extradite me to Ukraine

MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko who was put on a wanted list in Ukraine is convinced that the Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office (GPU) will not be able to convince the British justice system to extradite him.

Onyshchenko also said he was not avoiding meetings with GPU detectives but agreed to meet them only in London. The GPU voiced concerns earlier that Onyshchenko may leave London for Russia, and it will be more difficult to extradite him from there.

On Tuesday, August 9, Solomyanka District Court of Kyiv ruled to allow Onyshchenko’s arrest. On Thursday, August 11, Interpol Ukraine received materials to put Onyshchenko on an international wanted list, and is planning to submit them to Interpol.

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko says that the extradition will depend on whether the court in London will find the evidence provided by NABU and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office convincing.
