The European Court of Justice annulled the sanctions against the estate of Viktor Yanukovych Junior, the now-deceased younger son of Ukraine’s ex-president Viktor Yanukovych. The sanctions were introduced in 2014 after the Maidan shootings and the Russian occupation of Crimea.

According to Ukrinform, the decision of the ECJ was published on the court’s website.

Viktor Yanukovych Jr. filed a lawsuit to annul the restrictive measures and freezing of his funds in the EU in 2014. In March 2015 he died in a car accident near Lake Baikal in Russia. His widow decided to continue with the case.

In the same year (2015) Yanukovych Junior was excluded from the sanctions list following his death.
