Over 2,000 Ukrainian schools and kindergartens are under occupation

More than 2,000 schools and kindergartens are currently under temporary Russian occupation.

This is the data as of 24 November, as stated in a report from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Educational establishments in Kherson Oblast are suffering the most from the occupiers, and those in Mykolaiv Oblast the least. 

The numbers of schools in all the oblasts that are partially occupied are as follows: 

  • Kherson Oblast – 357;
  • Zaporizhzhia Oblast – 267; 
  • Luhansk Oblast – 252; 
  • Donetsk Oblast – 156; 
  • Kharkiv Oblast – 10; 
  • Mykolaiv Oblast – 2.

The numbers of pre-school educational institutions are: 

  • Kherson Oblast – 429;
  • Luhansk Oblast – 270; 
  • Zaporizhzhia Oblast – 211;
  • Donetsk Oblast – 163; 
  • Kharkiv Oblast – 9; 
  • Mykolaiv Oblast – 1.

The report produced by the Ministry of Education and Science also indicates that 174 pre-school educational institutions are still being used as shelters for internally displaced people.
