Details: Anonymous Telegram channels reported that the Russians had launched a missile attack on a market in the city centre.

Ukrinform, citing the Donetsk Oblast Military Administration, reported that 16 people had been killed and 5 wounded.

Update: Zelenskyy posted a video of the attack on the city and confirmed that the Russians had attacked the market and killed 16 people. He noted that it was an artillery attack.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "Whenever anyone in the world tries to deal with anything Russian, it means turning a blind eye to reality. To the audacity of evil. The audacity of meanness. Full-scale inhumanity. As of now, the Russian terrorists' artillery has killed 16 people in the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk Oblast. It was an ordinary market. Shops. A pharmacy. People who had done nothing wrong. Many were wounded. Unfortunately, the number of people killed and injured may increase.

My condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones! We must defeat this Russian evil as soon as possible."

Ihor Klymenko, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, reported that 28 people were injured and 16 died. A rescue crew member is among the casualties.

Klymenko added that the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the police are conducting a search and rescue operation. Removal of the debris is ongoing. Doctors and police paramedics are providing the injured with first aid.

Emergency workers quickly extinguished a fire that covered 300 sq m. Nearly 30 retail units have been damaged.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine reports that 31 people were injured and 16 killed. The Russians launched the attack at about 14:00.

Quote: "A fire broke out when Russian projectiles struck the retail units. As of 16:00, 16 people have been killed in the attack. Another 31 people sustained injuries of various degrees of severity and are receiving urgent medical help.

Preliminary reports say 20 shops, power lines, an administrative building and the fifth floor of a residential building have been damaged. Cars and 8 retail spaces have been burned out. A search and rescue operation is underway. There are still people under the debris."

Update: Tetiana Ihnatenko, spokeswoman for the Donetsk Oblast Military Administration, said on the 24/7 national newscast that as of 17:30, 16 people have been confirmed dead and 34 injured. She said the main consequences of the Russian strike have already been "more or less dealt with".

Ihnatenko added that the search for people under the rubble is no longer ongoing.

Note: The Russians launched their attack on Kostiantynivka on the anniversary of the city’s liberation from the Nazi occupiers, which is celebrated on 6 September.
