Poland to Suspend Local Border Traffic with Ukraine for One Month

Poland is going to suspend local border traffic with Ukraine – in particular, it may temporarily ban entry and stay of Ukrainian people living in border areas who have the respective permits issued by the Polish authorities, Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service website informs.

A diplomatic note from Poland’s Foreign Ministry says that the country is suspending local border traffic starting from July 4, 1 a.m. Kyiv time. Local residents who used to travel with special permits will have to cross the border according to the standard procedure that applies to all Ukrainian citizens.

Poland explained that this suspension would be valid while it hosts the NATO Summit in Warsaw on July 8-9 and World Youth Days on July 20-31 which the Pope is expected to attend. Local Border Traffic will be resumed on August 2, Ukraine Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mariana Betsa confirmed.
