Quote: "Our people will never forget each and every one who fights for Ukraine, who gave their life for it.

And our memory is not all we have. Our independence, which we will preserve and pass on to our children and grandchildren, our victory, which will surely come, will be the best tribute to the memory of all who died in this war. Heroes live forever!

Glory to our people! Glory to our soldiers! Glory to Ukraine!"

Details: On 29 August, Ukrainians honour the memory of defenders who have died in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, emphasised that every day Ukrainians should remember the price people paid and continue to pay for their freedom.

"There are no right words or right moments when it comes to losses. Because these losses are the broken destinies of people who meant the whole universe to their relatives.

Unfortunately, heroes die. They gain eternal life and eternal glory, remain our spiritual reference points and examples for future generations of Ukrainians," the Commander-in-Chief noted.

Zaluzhnyi promised that "no sacrifice will be in vain – we will continue the struggle until our Victory."

Oleksii Reznikov, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, reiterated that the struggle continues, and the best sons and daughters of Ukraine continue to fight at the cost of their lives.

Quote from Reznikov: "I bow my head to the loved ones and relatives of every defender, in honour of each of our Heroes, because no words will be able to soothe this pain of loss.

Ukraine did not start this war, but Ukraine will end it. With victory."
