Details: The Energy Ministry reported that Energoatom's ninth power unit (1000 MW) was connected to the energy system at 01:09, following repair work. The power capacity is being increased.

It is unclear which nuclear power plant Halushchenko is referring to. The Minister has only noted that the power unit was taken out of operation on 23 November as a result of rocket attacks.

He also recalled that the occupiers are blocking the switching on of the power units at Zaporizhzhia NPP, which continues to consume more than 100 megawatts of auxiliary power from the Ukrainian energy system.

Background:

  • As of the morning of 12 December, there is still a significant power deficit in the energy system; the situation in Odesa Oblast is still difficult, while the restoration of the power supply to consumers continues.
  • Due to the current situation with the energy system, the deficit will likely remain throughout the winter season
  • The reason for the deficit is massive Russian missile attacks on the Ukrainian energy system. The repair work has become more complicated as the temperature has dropped below zero.
