Russian security services collect data on prisoners of war and their relatives

Russian web resources send SMS messages to the families of Ukrainian defenders en masse with an offer to fill out a questionnaire that will allegedly help to find soldiers in captivity on the territory of the Russian Federation or on the occupied territories of Ukraine.

Details: The headquarters warns that the Russian special services are collecting personal data under the guise of "assistance" to families searching for missing persons, which may ultimately endanger the defenders in captivity and hinder their release.

The headquarters also strongly recommends relatives and friends of the Ukrainian military to:

  • Ignore any third party unofficial messages;
  • Do not provide any personal information about your relatives to suspicious persons/sites/telegram channels;
  • Report cases of illegal collection of personal data to law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defence warns that all issues related to the soldiers in captivity should be discussed only with the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, which deals with issues of assistance and release from captivity.
