Defence forces repel enemy’s attack near 13 settlements and down 27 Shahed UAVs – General Staff report

On 2 January, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled attacks from Russian occupiers near 13 settlements and destroyed 27 Iranian-made UAVs.

Quote: "In the course of the past 24 hours, the enemy launched 6 missile and 52 air strikes, and performed 77 attacks using multiple-launch rocket systems. All 6 missile and 30 air strikes were carried out by the enemy against civilian infrastructure. In addition, all 27 Shahed-136 UAVs which were used by the enemy have been shot down by the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The threat of enemy air and missile strikes on critical infrastructure remains throughout Ukraine.

In trying to take full control of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, the enemy is concentrating its efforts on conducting offensive operations on the Bakhmut front. [Russian forces — ed.] are making attempts to improve their tactical position on the Lyman and Avdiivka fronts, strengthening their grouping on the Novopavlivka front at the expense of units transferred from the Kherson front.

Over the past day, units from the Defence Forces repelled the attacks by the occupiers near the settlements of Stelmakhivka, Makiivka, Ploshchanka and Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast), and Rozdolivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Pidhorodne, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Kurdyumivka, Avdiivka and Marinka (Donetsk Oblast)".

Details: There were no significant changes on the Volyn, Polissia, Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna fronts. The Russians are maintaining a military presence in the border areas, and no formation of Russian offensive groups has been detected.

The Russian forces are defending previously occupied lines and concentrating their efforts on restraining the actions of units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine on other fronts, while simultaneously firing on Ukrainian troop positions and civilian targets along the entire line of contact.

On the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna fronts, the areas in and around Lypivka, Yeline in Chernihiv Oblast; Volfyne, Pavlivka, Pokrovka and Mayske in Sumy Oblast, as well as Strilecha, Staritsia, Ohirtseve, Vovchansk, Okhrimivka and Kamianka in Kharkiv Oblast, were subjected to artillery and mortar attacks.

On the Kupiansk front, the Russians used their entire range of artillery to attack the areas of settlements of Novomlynsk, Tavilzhanka, Dvorichna, Lyman Pershyi, Vilshana, Kupiansk, Kucherivka, Orlianka, Kurylivka, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka, Tabayivka and Pershotravneve in Kharkiv Oblast, and Novoselivske, Andriivka and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk Oblast.

On the Lyman front, tank, mortar and artillery attacks were recorded in the vicinities of Makiivka, Ploshchanka, Nevske, Chervonopivka and Dibrova in Luhansk Oblast, as well as Terny in Donetsk Oblast.

On the Bakhmut front, Russian forces fired using tanks, mortars and rocket artillery on the areas of the settlements of Spirne, Berestove, Bilohorivka, Vesele, Yakovlivka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Kostiantynivka, Stupochky, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Bila Hora, Kurdyumivka, Dyliivka, Maiorsk and New-York in Donetsk Oblast.

On the Avdiivka front, the occupiers fired using tanks and artillery of various types near the settlements of Vesele, Berdychi, Avdiiivka, Heorhiyivka, Marinka, Novomykhailivka and Vodiane in Donetsk Oblast.

On the Novopavlivka front, the areas near the settlements of Vuhledar, Zolota Nyva, Velyka Novosilka and Vremivka in Donetsk Oblast came under attack from Russian tanks, mortars, tubed and rocket artillery.

On the Zaporizhzhia front, the Russians carried out shelling from tanks and the entire range of artillery in the areas of settlements of Novopil in Donetsk Oblast, Olhivske, Zeleny Hai, Huliaipole, Dorozhnianka, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Charivne, Novodanylivka, Orihiv, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, Kamianske and Plavni in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and Musiivka and Chervonohryhorivka in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

On the Kherson front, Russia forces continue attacking settlements along the right bank of the Dnipro River. In particular, civilian infrastructure facilities in the city of Kherson and the settlements of Zelenivka, Inzhenerne, Molodizhne, Antonivka and Beryslav in Kherson Oblast were damaged by artillery shelling, and there were civilian casualties.

Aircraft from Ukraine’s defence forces carried out 13 strikes on clusters of Russian military personnel, weapons and military equipment, as well as five strikes on anti-aircraft missile system positions.

In the course of the past 24 hours, Ukrainian defenders shot down a Russian Ka-52 helicopter and three reconnaissance Orlan-10 UAVs.

In addition, Ukraine’s Rocket Forces and Artillery units inflicted fire damage to an area where Russian manpower and military equipment were concentrated, as well as to a Russian radar station.
