Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has called for an increase in the ammunition supply to Ukraine to counter full-scale Russian aggression.

Quote: "Zelenskyy and Ukrainians have a lot of applause and not enough ammunition. That is a paradox. They need to be less applauded and better supplied with arms. Ukraine is fighting, paying the highest price in lives, but this war happens on European soil, affects us and has a global impact around the world," he said.

The senior EU diplomat added that the EU now faces "three major challenges: first, our credibility as a global player; second, our strategic responsibility as a security and defence provider; and third, our engagement with partners around the world and to preserve or even to rebuild truthful cooperation with many of the so-called Global South."

The shortage of ammunition due to the high intensity of its use is one of the key topics of discussion in the context of assistance to Ukraine.

At the same time, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace states that the lack of ammunition is not a strategic problem for Ukraine's Western allies.

This week, Estonia suggested European Union countries invest about €4 billion to jointly purchase 1 million rounds of ammunition that Ukraine needs this year to repel a Russian invasion.
