Quote: "The main thing in this document is the continued political support and practical all-around assistance to Ukraine to strengthen our state's security and defence capabilities. In addition, it is important that the Declaration established support for the right of our state to choose its own path and security mechanisms independently. The document recognizes Ukraine's significant contribution to Euro-Atlantic security, which our country is doing with its fight against Russian aggression," Ihor Zhovkva said.

Details: He detailed that Slovenia confirmed its support for the "peace formula" proposed by Kyiv and the convening of a global summit for this, as well as its support for the creation of a special tribunal to condemn the crime of aggression by Russia against Ukraine and bring to justice those involved in war crimes; willingness to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine, in particular, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv oblasts.

According to him, Slovenia has also expressed support for opening negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU as soon as possible.

Quote: "Slovenia's support for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration became an important topic, in particular, our country's efforts to implement NATO standards, which was also reflected in the joint declaration. We are sincerely grateful for Slovenia's clear position in supporting Ukraine's acquisition of NATO membership! Strongly and without hesitation," the deputy head of the Office of the President noted.

Details: According to Zhovkva, this is already the ninth country with which Ukraine has signed a joint declaration of support for its Euro-Atlantic aspirations after the Czech Republic, Belgium, Montenegro, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, Latvia, and Iceland.

Reminder:

  • The prime minister of Slovenia came to Ukraine together with the leaders of Slovakia, Croatia, and Moldova. He began his speech in Bucha in Ukrainian,
  • As is known, Kyiv hopes to receive the most vital possible decisions regarding Ukraine's future in NATO at the Alliance's Vilnius summit in July.
