Romanian vessels were in Ukrainian port during Russian attack

Six Romanian vessels were in the Ukrainian port of Reni during the Russian strikes on the night of 23-24 July.

Details: Mediafax reported that during the drone attack, Romanian sailors saw and heard explosions in the port, which is located on the left bank of the Danube.

It is noted that the sailors and their vessels were not injured or damaged, and after the strikes, they quickly left the port and reached the right bank, where the territory of Romania begins.

Background: 

  • Earlier, Ukrainian Operational Command Pivden (South) reported that on the night of 23-24 July, the Russian military launched another attack on Odesa Oblast. The Ukrainian military said the attack had targeted the Danube port infrastructure.
  • The strikes destroyed a warehouse with grain and damaged tanks for storing other goods. A fire broke out in one of the production facilities.
  • Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa Oblast Military Administration, reported that six port employees were injured in the attack. Four were hospitalised.
  • Romanian President Klaus Iohannis called the latest Russian attack a serious threat to the security of the Black Sea.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova condemned Russia's attack on the Danube port infrastructure in Odesa Oblast.
