Zelenskyy tells local government now is not the time to repave roads
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged local governments to allocate budget funds first and foremost to pressing defence needs.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "As for budgetary allocations. Ukrainian soldiers and everyone in Ukraine have to feel that Ukrainian hromadas consider defence their number one priority. [A hromada is a local administrative unit often designating a city or town and its adjacent territories, or a group of villages – ed.]
Budget spending must reflect these priorities. I don’t want to offend representatives of local governments, but now is definitely not the time to repave roads. New road surface won’t drive enemy forces out of our country.
We will beautify our cities once we secure our victory. It is also worth looking for extra-budgetary sources to cover expenditures [other than defence]. [Local governments] can talk to donors."
Details: Zelenskyy also called on local governments to provide assistance to the military, frontline regions and volunteers, and to help with treatment and rehabilitation of civilians whom the war has left injured.
