Russian athletes registered as Syrian at competition in Algeria

Russian athletes have been listed as athletes from Syria at the Pan Arab Games in Algeria; some of them have had their surnames and dates of birth changed.

Details: Russian judoka Milana Mugu (Milana Mrad) and gymnast Alexandra Maksimova have been added to the list as Syrian sportswomen.

In addition, the following athletes have had their names and dates of birth changed: badminton player Daria Dzhedzhula, cyclists Tatiana and Daria Malkova, athlete Karina Poludkina and swimmer Anastasia Sorokina.

At the same time, the head coach of the Russian national athletics team, Ruslan Mashchenko, has said that at least one athlete, Karina Poludkina, was not present at the competition. The Russian Athletics Federation is investigating how she ended up on the Syrian list.

For reference: Athletes from Russia are looking for ways to participate in international competitions where they are not allowed or are allowed with restrictions due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
