On 23 August, a Russian Shahed attack drone destroyed a school and killed four teachers in the town of Romny in Sumy Oblast.

As a result of the attack, Tetiana Prokopenko, the principal of secondary school No 8, was killed.

"It is painful to realise that her many plans and ideas have been left unfulfilled...

In our memory, Tetiana Ivanivna will forever remain a smiling, cheerful, incredibly beautiful, happy, reliable colleague and a true professional," said Viktoriia Zelenska, a colleague of the deceased.

"The small but close-knit teaching staff made every effort to make the children feel comfortable and safe.

Just yesterday, the school was standing, it was alive, it was full of children's voices, because the 1st September [Knowledge Day and the first day of a school year in Ukraine – ed.] is special! We were preparing for the holiday, and no one imagined that it would turn into a tragedy..." wrote Ukrainian language and literature teacher Tetiana Lisnenko on the school's website.
