About 3,800 schools will work in a mixed mode, since the shelters in these buildings may not accommodate all teachers and learners simultaneously.

Pupils from another 2,500 institutions will continue to study remotely.

Quote: "One fully-fledged shelter costs about UAH 30 million (approximately US$810,000). This year, the state allocated UAH 1.5 billion (approximately US$40 million) for their construction. We expect that a significant number of schools will be equipped with new fully-fledged shelters," Stashkiv said.

He added that schools in the frontline territories will not be open, but institutions that have relocated from temporarily occupied regions will be.

"We have some schools that have relocated from the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts. They are now operating in Ukrainian-controlled territory and will start working remotely from 1 September, including for students from temporarily occupied territories," the deputy minister added.

Background: Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science is proposing to hold the first lesson on the importance of mental health in schools on 1 September.
