A 12-year-old girl from the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk Oblast has died, and over 100 schoolchildren have been hospitalised, following a trip to Tyumen, Russia, that was supposed to improve their health.

Details: Lysohor said the children are in hospital in Russia’s Saratov Oblast. Over 30 of the 125 children have high temperatures. Healthcare workers are examining all of them, taking blood tests and trying to establish a diagnosis. The Luhansk students have been isolated from others.

Lysohor reported that the 12-year-old girl from Luhansk lost consciousness on the train and could not be saved.

Quote: "The local government assured parents that they would organise a helpline. However, there is no way of contacting many of them due to the lack of mobile coverage in several cities and villages of the so-called LPR [Luhansk People's Republic – ed.].

The children were on their way back from Tyumen [in Siberia], where they had gone to improve their health. Not in the summer, not to Krasnodar Krai, for example [in Russia’s south-west], but Tyumen in December.

They’d taken them to a regular children's camp. Just recently, some schoolchildren from Sievierodonetsk were taken to the freezing cold Perm Oblast.

Their immune systems couldn't cope. They failed to improve the children’s health."
