Staff and patients went down to the shelter as soon as the alarm went off, the head of the obstetrics department noted.

"That saved them... Windows shattered in the building, ceilings were broken. But all the patients and medical staff are safe and sound!" the Oblast Military Administration said.

Iryna Kulbach, the head of the obstetrics department, confirmed to Suspilne that none of the mothers or babies were hurt.

"They are all home now. I am sure that the maternity ward will reopen in the near future, and new Ukrainians will be born there," the doctor added.

On the night of 28-29 December, the Russians launched 158 missiles and drones in a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine. 114 of them were downed by Ukrainian air defence.

Six people were killed and 20 injured, including a child, in the missile attack on Dnipro.
