"Many thanks to the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine for their outstanding 2023 chairmanship. We remain committed to close cooperation with Ukraine in fostering reforms and addressing Russia's aggression," the diplomats added.

The presidency is transferred in accordance with the country leading the Group of Seven.

As reported, Italy has taken over the presidency of the G7, replacing Japan in this role.

The G7 Group consists of the United States, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Japan, and the EU as an association. Russia was expelled from this format after the occupation of Crimea in 2014.
