Germany sends ammunition and drones to Ukraine in new aid package

The German government has updated the list of military aid provided to Ukraine.

Details: The new aid package from Germany includes:

  • ammunition for Leopard 1 main battle tanks;
  • 25 RQ-35 HEIDRUN reconnaissance drones; 
  • 8 armoured personnel carriers; 
  • material for explosive ordnance disposal
  • 50 SatCom terminals; 
  • 5 border protection vehicles; 
  • 1,840 combat helmets;
  • 500 LED lamps; 
  • 3 vehicles (trucks, minibuses, all-terrain vehicles); 
  • 16 Zetros tankers.

Background:

  • It was reported that Germany would provide Ukraine with military goods worth more than €7 billion in 2024.
  • On 4 January, Germany handed over missiles for the IRIS-T SLM anti-air missile systems and Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine in a new aid package.
  • In 2023, arms exports from Germany reached a record €12.2 billion. Ukraine was the main recipient of arms from Germany, having imported weapons for €4.44 billion from this country.
