Poroshenko: Constitution Should Grant Crimean Tatars the Right to Self-Determination within Ukraine

Amendments to the Constitution should be made to grant Crimean Tatars the right to self-determination within sovereign Ukraine, President Poroshenko stressed during a session in Parliament in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Ukrainian Constitution.

"We should launch the process of amending Chapter 10 of the Constitution about the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. These amendments derive from inalienable right of the Crimean Tatar people to self-determination within sovereign and independent Ukraine," he stated. He added that the rights and freedoms of Ukrainians, Russians and other ethnic minorities in Crimea should also be secured.
