Background: At the end of June, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that in the near future, Russia would supply Belarus with Iskander-M short-range missile complexes, which can shoot ballistic and cruise missiles. Putin emphasised that these missiles can carry nuclear warheads.

On 4 October, Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, said that there is no need to announce mobilisation in Belarus, although he has been constantly preparing Belarus for war through all the years of his presidency.
