The government may decide to launch the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) road repair control system this year, the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan said on August 15, the Ministry’s press service reports.

"The question of the quality of road repairs is number one question. First of all, in order to save the roads we launched weight control — we do not let overloaded vehicles move on the main highways of the country. Secondly, we are currently launching the so-called FIDIC system. I hope that this year the government adopts a corresponding resolution that will provide for full control of the quality of the works performed. Under this system, independent companies check quality on site, by making a full section of road materials," the Minister said.

"Those who have violated the standards will have to pay compensation and bear administrative responsibility. In addition, the companies that make roads of bad quality will not further participate in road repairs," he added.
