Zelenskyy: Russia is the greatest source of terrorism in the world

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine reiterated that Russia must be recognised as a terrorist state, though there are different ways to put legal pressure on it.

Details: Zelenskyy said that he raised the issue of officially recognising Russia a terrorist state during his meeting with Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, who paid an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Thursday, 8 September.
Quote: "Legal reality must always correspond to the actual reality. And it is a fact that Russia has become the greatest source of terrorism in the world.
You can choose one or another format of procedures, one or another formula of legal pressure against Russia for terror, but the world must receive an unequivocal signal that Russian terror will not be forgiven."
Background:
- On 6 September, US President Joe Biden said that Russia should not be designated a state sponsor of terrorism.
- Earlier on Tuesday, 6 September, Karine Jean-Pierre, US Press Secretary, said that designating Russia a state sponsor of terrorism might result in reduction of US aid for Ukraine and be detrimental to its humanitarian efforts in the country.
- In late July, the US Senate unanimously approved a resolution calling on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to designate Russia a state sponsor of terrorism for its actions in Chechnya, Georgia, Syria and Ukraine.
- Russia has threatened to break diplomatic relations with the US if it designates Russia a terrorist state.
