Two-thirds of Ukrainians want liberation of all of Ukraine, including Crimea

64% of Ukrainians are convinced that it is necessary to try to liberate the entire territory of Ukraine, including Crimea, even if it means a more prolonged war and less support from the West.

Source: Results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) on 22 February – 6 March

Quote: "The majority of respondents, 64%, believe that Ukraine should try to liberate the entire territory, including Crimea, even if there is a risk of reduced Western support and a longer war. In contrast, 24% are more inclined to the option that, in exchange for the liberation and protection of all territories, including Donbas (but excluding Crimea), Ukraine can refrain from military operations in Crimea."

Details: Another 8% of respondents could not answer this question.

Sociologists note that the vast majority insists on the liberation of all territories, including Crimea, in all oblasts of Ukraine. While support for a "compromise" is no more than 27%, depending on the oblast.

The survey was conducted from 22 February to 6 March. A total of 2,007 respondents, living in all oblasts of Ukraine (except Crimea), were interviewed by telephone based on a random sample of mobile numbers.

The survey was conducted with adult citizens of Ukraine (aged 18 and older) who at the time of the survey resided in Ukraine (within the borders controlled by the Ukrainian authorities until 24 February 2022).

Formally, under normal circumstances, the sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) would not exceed 2.4% for indicators close to 50%, 2.1% for indicators close to 25%, 1.5% for indicators close to 10%, and 1.1% for indicators close to 5%.

Sociologists point out that in times of war, in addition to the above formal error, a specific systematic deviation is added, but the results still retain high representativeness and allow for a relatively reliable analysis of public sentiment.

Background:
Earlier, sociologists found that the vast majority of Ukrainians considered any territorial concessions to be unacceptable in order to achieve peace. According to the latest KIIS data, only 9% of Ukrainians are generally ready for concessions, while 87% are against any concessions.
