Rob Bauer, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, has said that Russia is now weakened due to the war against Ukraine, and the Alliance has time to build up collective security before Moscow recovers its strength.

Details: He called the expected approval of regional defence plans a positive development, but, according to Bauer, their implementation will take time, and it is important to start the very next day after the summit when there is a decision.

Quote: "Recruiting more soldiers, building infrastructure—and it’s not only in defence; it’s also military mobility; in Europe, it’s still a problem. It will be difficult and it will take time because it is not a switch; it is a path from where we are to where we need to go," he said.

"There is a little bit of time; that's the good news, because the Russians are not as good as they were at the start of the war [with Ukraine - ed.]. So, we have a bit of time," Bauer said.
