Details: Zelenskyy noted that he always enjoys conversations with his Polish counterpart and thanked Duda for his Independence Day greetings.

"In 1991, Poland recognised our independence right after the referendum. It was a leader then and remains one now. I am sincerely grateful to the whole Polish nation for all the support," Zelenskyy stated.

Duda has not yet spoken about the conversation.

A few hours prior to that, he posted a statement dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine, stressing that this holiday is quite symbolic at the moment.

"Ukraine's Independence Day has a particularly symbolic dimension today. Russian aggression is a credibility test for the democratic states of the free world. If they help Ukraine defend itself and remain independent, freedom and international law will prevail. If Ukraine drowns in the darkness of the Russian occupation, violence and evil will triumph. Poland has always been on the side of freedom and independence. Poland stands with free and independent Ukraine!" Duda stated.

Background: On 23 August Duda remotely participated in the Crimean Platform summit. In his speech, Duda stressed that maintaining the world order depends on whether Russia is able to secure Crimea for itself following the results of the war.

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda was present at the summit personally and turned to Ukrainians with a speech entirely in Ukrainian in the St Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv on the Independence Day of Ukraine.
