The rebuilding "will cost tens of millions of hryvnias and will take months", the statement said.

Auchan Ukraine is currently waiting for the results of an expert assessment.

"If there are no risks to customers and staff, we can cordon off the affected area, and reopen the store and carry out the repair work at the same time," the chain’s press service added.

According to the press service, the fire was quickly put out, but the supermarket will be temporarily closed from 30 August onwards to deal with the aftermath of the strike.

Background:

In March 2023, it was revealed that the French retailer Auchan plans to open new stores called My Auchan in Russia and thus basically double its presence in the Russian market.

Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said the biggest missile attack on Kyiv since spring occurred on the night of 29-30 August.

As missile fragments fell on the building of the hypermarket, the Auchan RiveGauche caught fire in Kyiv's Darnytsia district.
