Three people suspected of embezzling money from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine have been detained in Finland by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine (SAPO), along with officers of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of the Finnish Police. The money was allocated for the purchase of 5,000 bulletproof vests for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Details: Reportedly, one of the detainees is a representative of a private company that failed to deliver 50% of the bulletproof vests purchased and fully paid for by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

The investigation discovered that instead of purchasing 5,000 bulletproof vests for the Defence Forces, the suspects spent part of the money on luxury cars and real estate.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau stated that the detectives would use the evidence collected in their own criminal cases on the fact of misappropriation of funds from the Ministry of Defence in the purchase of bulletproof vests.
