Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that he will attend the Ukrainian Peace Summit in Switzerland in June.

Background:

  • During a phone conversation on 7 May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed the Peace Summit in Switzerland and the work undertaken to bring Ukrainian children forcibly taken to Russia back to Ukraine.
  • On 9 May, European Council President Charles Michel also confirmed he would take part in the Peace Summit during a phone conversation with President Zelenskyy.
  • Polish President Andrzej Duda has also confirmed his attendance.
  • The Global Peace Summit will take place in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on 15-16 June. More than 160 countries and international organisations have been invited to attend, but not Russia.
