We advance on several fronts – Zelenskyy on counteroffensive

Asked about the counteroffensive, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine's troops are moving forward little by little, although it is very difficult because Russian forces are densely mining the territory.

Quote: "We spoke with the prime minister today. If you don't mind, I won't say everything publicly, but we see that we are moving forward on several fronts. It is very difficult for us, there is very dense mining, thousands of mines is what Russia is leaving behind.

The most important trend that the military reports to me every day is that we are moving forward, on and on. Yes, little by little, but the direction is right."

Background:

  • On 22 August, the Defence Ministry of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian defence forces from the 47th Separate Brigade entered the recently liberated settlement of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and organised the evacuation of civilians, while the Russians shelled the village with artillery.
  • On 16 August, Hanna Maliar, Deputy Defence Minister of Ukraine, reported that Ukrainian defenders liberated the village of Urozhaine in Donetsk Oblast.
