A waiter in one of the bars in the city of Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav, near Prague, had harassed two Ukrainian refugees by turning on the Russian national anthem in front of them, which caused outrage in the bar.

Ukrainian Olesia Koshilka who moved to Czechia after the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine told the publication that she and a friend came to the CottonClub Brandýs in a town near Prague.

When the woman asked for the Wi-Fi password, the waiter told her that there was "only Russian internet", and a few minutes later, the Russian national anthem started playing in the restaurant.

"I don't understand what's going on, so I go inside and say: ‘Is this the Russian national anthem?’ They answer: ‘Yes’. I say that I am Ukrainian, to which they reply: ‘So what?’ and start laughing and turn on a siren," says Olesia.

When the girl posted a video from CottonClub Brandýs on the internet, the bar received many negative reviews, and the owner called her and apologised. The bar also posted its position on social media.

"We do not agree with the political views of our employees and dissociate ourselves from them...we also do not agree with the violation of human rights and freedoms that is taking place against Ukraine," the bar’s owners noted, adding that they decided to fire the waiter who initiated the conflict.

In June, Czech President Petr Pavel met with a Ukrainian schoolgirl who was bullied by her Czech classmates during a school trip.
