The loss of the guided-missile corvette Ivanovets is a significant one for the Russians because there are only three such corvettes in service in the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Quote: "This is quite a significant loss, given that there are only three such Project 1241.1 corvettes in service in Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, and the weapons include Moskit-type anti-ship missiles with a range of up to 130 km.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway. Since the crew of the corvette consisted of 40 sailors, the loss of personnel is significant as well."

Details: The Ukrainian Navy added that this is not the first loss inflicted on the Russians in this brigade, since Ukraine had previously succeeded in damaging a Russian Samum-class Project 1239 missile-carrying hovercraft.

Background:

  • Soldiers of the Group 13 special forces unit of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence destroyed the guided-missile corvette Ivanovets on the night of 31 January-1 February 2024.
