The Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery is part of NK Rosneft PJSC and is one of the largest refineries in the Volga region. It has a designed capacity of around 8.8 million tonnes of crude oil a year. The refinery produces various petroleum products, including jet fuel supplied to Russian forces.
Background:
- The Novokuibyshevsk refinery has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian drones. On 17 April, a major fire broke out at the facility following strikes. According to Reuters, the refinery was forced to shut down two primary oil-refining units, AVT-11 and AVT-9.
- On 10 June, the facility came under a drone attack again, after which the refinery temporarily suspended crude processing.
