"The situation with the energy system remains complicated. All thermal power plants were damaged by Russian missiles, and 44 high-voltage air transmission lines are without power", he stated. At the moment, repair works are ongoing, as is the process of gradually increasing  nuclear power generation capacity in order to reduce the deficit in the energy system.

The latest Russian attacks, specifically, drone attacks on the energetic infrastructure facilities in the Odesa region and artillery attacks on the energetic facility in the Kherson region, have caused not only power outages for millions of households in Ukraine but also the destruction of important energy system equipment.

Halushchenko remarked that Ukraine is already receiving aid from its international partners in the form of materials and needed equipment, but new needs appear after subsequent attacks.

"Our goal is to not only rapidly use the equipment for conducting current repair works but also to collect backup equipment supplies, which will allow us to fix energy facilities after subsequent attacks more quickly", he emphasised.

Background:

As of morning of 12 December a significant power deficit remains in the energy system, and the situation in the Odesa region remains complicated. There is ongoing work to restore energy supply to households.

Due to the current situation with the energy system, the deficit will likely remain during the entire winter season.

The cause of the deficit is large-scale Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system. The repair works of the power system became harder when temperatures fell below zero.
