Russia has killed 116 journalists in Ukraine since February 2022
A total of 116 Ukrainian and foreign journalists have been killed since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 18 of them directly while performing their professional duties.

Among the deceased are not only Ukrainian but also foreign reporters who risked their lives so that the world could learn the truth about Russian aggression.
In addition, at least 26 civilian Ukrainian media workers and one journalist who joined the defence forces are currently held in Russian captivity."
Details: The National Committee of Ukraine for Cooperation with UNESCO's International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) addressed international partners on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists to draw attention to the unprecedented scale of Russian crimes against Ukrainian journalists.
Background:
- As of May 2025, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications reported that a total of 201 artists and 103 media workers had been killed in Ukraine.
- On 3 October, French reporter Antoni Lallican was killed in a Russian FPV drone strike that also injured Kyiv Independent freelance photographer Heorhii Ivanchenko.
- On 23 October, it was reported that a Russian Lancet drone strike on Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast had killed journalist Olena Hubanova and cameraman Yevhen Karmazin from the Ukrainian Freedom TV channel.
