Details: Russia launched over 450 attack drones and 45 missiles of various types against Ukraine, targeting critical infrastructure facilities and causing blackouts in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa and Kirovohrad oblasts.
Emergency power cuts have been implemented in multiple regions as a result of the strikes.
Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said the situation in Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava oblasts is still extremely challenging.
She said the damaged energy facilities are currently being inspected to assess the extent of the destruction. Gas infrastructure facilities were also hit, and production equipment was damaged.
Ukrenergo, Ukraine's state-owned electricity transmission operator, specified that the emergency outages will be cancelled once the situation in the energy system has stabilised.
Hourly blackout schedules (up to three queues at a time) and power restrictions for industrial users are still in place in some regions. [Ukrenergo defines a "queue" as a group of consumers and businesses using a specific amount of megawatts. The Dispatch Centre sets the number of queues needed across oblasts to address energy deficits. Critical infrastructure and industrial companies that import over 80% of their energy cannot be disconnected, according to a Ukrainian Cabinet resolution – ed.]
